The Northern Rivers Conservatorium (NRC) is seeking experienced Music Tutors to engage in Face-to-Face instrument lessons. We are also seeking candidates that can conduct and teach ensembles.
Instrument areas of interest:
- Brass, Wind, Strings, Vocal, Ensemble Leaders/Conductors, multi-instrumentalists and Early Childhood Music teachers.
Expressions of interest for tutors of other instrumental areas are also welcome
Type of employment: Casual
Hours: negotiable
Pay: Based on qualifications and experienced. Higher rate for working with ensembles.

About the Role
You will be engaging in Face-to Face individual music tuition, with students of all levels and ages. Tuition is conducted on premises in the Lismore CBD as well as in local schools. Tutors are able to select the days, times and locations (schools) that they are available to teach. NRC provides all the necessary gear including instruments, amplifiers and PA systems.
Moreover, if you have the skill and desire, there are a range of opportunities for you to run an ensemble, from beginning concert bands and classical ensembles to contemporary rock/pop/jazz bands.
As a music educator at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium, you need to be proficient as a musician and as a music teacher. Moreover, you will display professional presentation and conduct, have excellent communication and organisational skills and be required to follow administration procedures as necessitated.
Our ideal candidates will meet the following selection criteria:
Essential:
- Proven commitment to quality music education.
- Bachelor of Music (or equivalent professional experience) combined with at least 5 years’ experience conducting and/or studio teaching.
- Demonstrated understanding and ability to facilitate a method of music education which is logical, sequenced and promotes student learning and engagement. This includes identifying and meeting the individual learning needs of students.
- Must be able to read, write and teach music literacy.
- Commitment to support the Northern Rivers Conservatorium’s place in the wider community through participation in events, concerts, workshops etc.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. This includes a demonstrated ability to respectfully communicate with people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities.
- Demonstrated interest in professional development as a teacher and as a musician.
- Experience working as part of a collaborative team.
Desirable:
- Experience with participation in or organisation of music activities such as teaching music theory, running workshops, conducting/leading ensembles, performance experience, organising gigs or similar arts events.
- Ability to teach multiple instruments (please specify to what level)
- Sound level of IT competency.
