Here’s cheers to a fantastic year at the Northern Rivers Conservatorium. Congratulations to each and every one of our beautiful students for their achievements throughout this year, whether grand or humble. Gratitude must be extended to our marvellous team of teachers whose dedication and commitment to the good cause of music education is inspiring. Thanks also to our hardworking admin team for their tireless efforts in supporting our teachers and students – we couldn’t do it without you. And to our community of families, friends, fans, partner organisations and Board of Directors – we offer you our heartfelt thanks for your encouragement and “championing” of our activities.
2016 promises to be an incredible year as we celebrate our 25th Birthday with a major creative development and presentation event – NRC Silver Jubilee. NRC students, alumni & teachers, local musicians and community members with guest conductor Richard Gill and visual artist Kelly O’Dempsey will present a major multi-artform performance in the grounds of the Northern Rivers Conservatorium in October 2016. Richard Gill to conduct an original orchestral and choral work composed by our very own Mark Bromley.
2016 will also see the launch of our Sponsorship Program at a special event mid March. Our Board’s Community Engagement Committee has worked to develop the program which aims to secure funds for scholarships, ensembles, equipment AND our beautiful building.
Our Sponsorship Program Launch will showcase performances by:
– NRC Silver Jubilee Preview Ensemble
– Youth Jazz Orchestra
– Chamber Strings
– Academy Alumni
– Featured Soloists
We are also very pleased to welcome back The Idea of North in the first week of March to present a professional development workshop for local teachers and choral directors, a public workshop for all singers and a beautiful evening concert. On a return visit after the success of professional development workshops in 2015 will be the team from Musical Futures and the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums.
Our Community Music Twilight Concerts will be presented in Weeks 3, 6 and 9 of each school term in our Concert Room on the top floor. Providing invaluable performance opportunities for our students in a supportive and relaxed setting these concerts are a wonderful way to share musical learning with family and friends. The Northern Rivers Youth Orchestra is again scheduled for the July school holidays and will celebrate its 5th year in 2016. Department of Education High School students will have the opportunity to attend the Lennox Head Music Camp at Lake Ainsworth in May. Our wonderful Youth Jazz Orchestra will be hosting workshops with Steve Newcombe and Ken Stubbs during March – a brilliant opportunity for young aspiring Jazz musicians.

Wishing you all the good tidings of the holiday season – we look forward to more wonderful music making together in 2016.
