The Northern Rivers Conservatorium (NRC) is thrilled to announce Paul Grabowsky as their Artist in Residence in March. Paul Grabowsky is without doubt, one of Australia’s most distinguished performers and creative directors. With a diverse career spanning over 40 years, Paul Grabowsky has performed with Jazz greats like Chet Baker, composed for over twenty feature films and Operas and has collected a swag of Helpmann, ARIA, Deadly and Bell Awards.

According to Anita Bellman, Executive Director at the NRC, as Artist in Residence, Paul Grabowsky will provide individual and group tuition for the Conservatorium’s Diploma students and the Youth Jazz Orchestra (YJO) between 24 and 27 March. In addition, he will treat the regions music elective students and general public to a tightly packed schedule of masterclasses and performances in Lismore and Byron Bay.

“It’s an understatement to say that we’re excited about Paul’s residency in Lismore. And although he’s well known for nurturing new talent, we were overwhelmed by his generosity as a musician and music educator when he visited the region last year.

“The idea for him to return as our artist in residence came about after the weekend he spent performing and workshopping with us in Lismore and Grafton. That, together with a dose of old fashioned Lismore hospitality sealed the friendship,” Ms Bellman enthused.

While this years Diploma students at the conservatorium will receive around the clock attention with Mr Grabowsky during his residency, some of the highlights for the region include; the opportunity for individual tuition, a workshop in improvisation at the Conservatorium on Thursday 26 March, and on Friday 27 there are two school’s concerts featuring Paul Grabowsky with The YJO at Southern Cross University and an evening performance at The Byron Community Theatre starring Paul Grabowsky and special guest saxophonist Ken Stubbs.
