Get ready for an explosion of tropical sounds and rhythms as saxophonist Gai Bryant brings her exceptional all star band for a series of performance and workshops in Northern NSW and Brisbane.  The Sydney-based quintet comprises the talents of bassist Brendan Clarke, guitarist Jeremy Sawkins, trombonist and trumpeter Danny Carmichael, drummer Paul Derricott and saxophonist / composer Gai Bryant.  The performances and workshops will celebrate their passion for Cuban music genres such as cha cha chá, rumba, bolero, son and Jazz.

The Northern Rivers Conservatorium will host two workshops on Saturday 29th – a Professional Development Workshop for classroom music teachers and a workshop open to the community.

Workshops with the Gai Bryant Quintet will explore the rhythmic patterns of Cuban music styles and jazz improvisation.  Each workshop will be a hands-on experience with all participants learning to build Cuban styles from the bottom up and dig into divergent approaches to jazz improvisation.  Please bring your instruments!!!  Gai will introduce a new Australian eBook resource: Jazz by Jazz Musicians featuring compositions by Alister Spence, Sandy Evans, Craig Scott, Warwick Alder and Gai.
